Mario Kart 8: First Impressions

PokemonYouTube and Megamanmushroom666 are only some of the users who were able to nab an advanced copy of Mario Kart 8 at SEARS this week. From their initial feedback, Nintendo’s highly anticipated flagship racing game seems to be worth the wait, featuring smooth graphics, very refined controls, balanced items, stutter-free gaming, and rewarding, skill-based gameplay.

On graphics:

Remember that demo you played on Gamestop? Well the game looks even better than that. It looks so much better on my TV.

Item balance:

And I love the item balance, whenever I am in first, second, or third I feel very safe. On the other hand when I’m behind the pack it is very hard to catch up. Previous games have had this backwards.

Online play:

I played online and I am pretty much the only American playing and boy it runs so smooth. I have not experienced any lag whatsoever and I had plenty of 10-12 player matches, the game plays like a dream.

Gameplay and skill:

In other words, in this game everything counts, it finally feels like you need skills more than anything. Hitting all those jumps, boosts (starting boost), hitting all those drifts, it all matters. There’s times I’m in first, I’m doing everything perfect and I can’t see anyone behind me, but then I’m drifting and accidentally hit the wall for a second and I feel the person right behind me. It feels amazing to hit and do everything perfectly.

Track design:

I’ve beaten the first two cups so far and some of the tracks are downright fantastic. Thwomp Ruins, Toad Harbour, Twisted Mansion and Shy Guy Falls were great.

With such positive feedback from early users, Mario Kart 8 seems to be a title that delivers on its promise. Get ready and set for the coming weekends Mario Kart 8 marathon!

Monster Monpiece

Monster Monpiece is a card battle game where users collect virtual cards and use them to battle foes. Battles are turn-based and take place on a 7×3 grid in which cards can be placed. During a player’s turn, he or she can drag and drop monster girl cards onto the grid field to activate them. The game contains over 100 different cards divided into four types, and not all of them are “monsters”. The four types are melee, ranged, healer, and booster. The game utilizes an “extreme rub” system to seal cards: “Poking, rubbing, and touching” the Vita’s screen will bring up the sealing mascot and remove the character’s clothing in stages, “from thick clothes to lightly dressed to skimpy bathing suit.”

Europa Universalis IV: Wealth of Nations

Mario Kart 8

The newest feature for the series is anti-gravitational segments that not only allow for more dynamic track design, but also for racers to drive across walls, ceilings, and other seemingly unusual places. When in anti-gravity, if a racer bumps into another racer, the kart spins rather than just bumping and both racers receive a speed boost. This technique is called “spin boosting”.

Mugen Souls Z

Mugen Souls Z is a role-playing video game developed by Compile Heart and co-produced by GCREST as the second installment in the Mugen Souls series. It was released in Japan on April 25, 2013 for the and in Korea on October 16 2013 for Sony PlayStation 3. It is scheduled to release in the west on May 20, 2014 on the Playstation 3 as well the PlayStation Network. The game plays very similar to the previous title but with a lot of fixes and plays a lot faster. Though the original game was very hardcore and takes a long time to get the platinum trophy and is very difficult to learn, Mugen Souls Z adds in a lot more features for veterans of the previous game to take advantage of and shorten their time to power up and mechanics will not need to rely as much on luck.

Drakengard 3
