Europa Universalis IV: Art of War Crash Fixes, Steam Launch, Save Error, Low FPS, Freezing, Video Errors, Visual C++, DirectX, .NET missing errors, Ubuntu

Europa Universalis IV: Art of War comes to enrich the already successful grand strategy wargame franchise. There are still some unresolved issues around, and later updates have even added some more. So here’s a list of 10 fixes for common problems. Before anything else, always remember that most game problems may go away if your PC meets minimum system requirements and if you have all hardware drivers updated, as well as any required redistributables (DirectX, C++ runtime etc) installed properly.

Europa Universalis IV: Art of War Crash Fixes, Steam Launch, Save Error, Low FPS, Freezing, Video Errors, Visual C++, DirectX, .NET missing errors, Ubuntu

1) Europa Universalis IV: Art of War launcher crashes

Make sure you have Microsoft .NET framework installed: also let Windows Update find and install any necessary patches/updates for them (if there are any).

2) Europa Universalis IV: Art of War game crashes

Make sure you have Visual C++ redistributables installed properly: well as this version of DirectX:

3) Game crashes with “This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.” message.

  1. Backup your saved games.
  2. In the Steam game page select “delete local content”.
  3. Go to the Steam game directory and manually delete it. Do the same for DocumentsParadox InteractiveEuropa Universalis IV directory.
  4. Reinstall game in Steam and when done run a verification check.

4) Game lags a lot, hiccups, slowdowns.

  1. Download and install the latest graphics card drivers from your manufacturer website.
  2. If everything is up to date and the problem persists, try disabling save game compression option in options->game menu.

5) Steam crashes after playing for a couple of minutes in Ironman.

Using the Cloud saves for Ironman is usually the cause. Starting your ironman game using local saves will fix this. In Steam go to Settings > Downloads + Cloud > uncheck Enable Steam Cloud.

6) Game starts with black screen, audio can be heard.

The game starts in fullscreen mode and most likely in a resolution that your PC doesn’t like. Open the following file: DocumentsParadox InteractiveEuropa Universalis IVsettings.txtand change the line “fullscreen = yes” to “fullscreen = no”.The game will now start in windowed mode and from there you can set whatever screen mode is compatible.

7) Game doesn’t save, save files disappear.

  1. Uncheck the save game compression option in options->game menu.
  2. If you use the Cloud, try disabling it (see #5).

8) Game hangs/freezes when loading.

Pressing alt-tab may reveal the Windows “This program has stopped responding” message box. Pressing “Wait for the program to respond” will allow the game to continue loading without crashing. This usually happens when randomly mouse-clicking during load.

9) Running Europa Universalis IV: Art of War using a TV for display doesn’t work.

TV incompatibilities aside, you might get past this one yet: Open the following file: DocumentsParadox InteractiveEuropa Universalis IVsettings.txtand change the following lines to look like this:x=1024y=768refreshRate=30Experiment with these values (within logical ranges) to see if your TV can catch up with any of them.

10) [Ubuntu] Game cursor disppears, screen tearing occurs.

According to the devs, using proprietary drivers for the video card instead of open source ones should fix this error.

Since Art of War is still fresh out there, more errors and crashes are bound to appear. In the meantime, make sure you apply any driver updates, and always keep a backup of your save files even separately from Steam Cloud, because the game’s patches have been known to occasionally corrupt existing saves. And, as always, if you have a specific problem not listed in the above, don’t forget to post it in the comments below and we’ll do our best to help.

Top 10 Fixes for Lords Of The Fallen Crashes, Errors, Won't Launch, Intro, Low FPS, Language, GPU Temp, Controller, Steam Overlay

Following closely in the footsteps of the Souls series, Lords Of The Fallen is already considered a worthy addition in the game subgenre of challenging combat and punishing deaths. As expected with large titles, since day one a series of issues and incompatibilities emerged. Here is a list of specific fixes for some especially troublesome and not-so-obvious problems. Before anything, always remember that most common problems may go away if your system specifications are OK for the game, and latest audio and graphics drivers are installed, as well as necessary runtimes like DirectX, Visual C++ redistributables and so on.

Top 10 Fixes for Lords Of The Fallen Crashes, Errors, Won’t Launch, Intro, Low FPS, Language, GPU Temp, Controller, Steam Overlay

1) Game crashes on intro screen.

  1. Open windows registry editor (Start>Search programs and files>type “regedit” and hit enter)
  2. Click Edit>Find or hit Ctrl+F and type “enableulps” (without the quotes)
  3. Change the value from 1 to 0.
  4. Keep changing other occuring instances of the key by using F3 (find next).
  5. Reboot.

Apparently disabling the Ultra Low Power Saving mode may overcome the intro crash. Be extra careful with the registry editor! A corrupted Windows registry may result in Windows not working at all!

2) Game crashes after launching, or won’t launch from Steam.

  1. Right click on Steam Library>Lords Of The Fallen and select Properties
  2. Go to Local Files and select “Verify integrity of game cache”If problems persist, you may also have to uninstall Steam and delete relevant Steam directories, then reinstall.

3) Graphics settings are not saved.

This is a rather weird one and will probably be fixed in a future update. According to a dev, using a gamepad to change and apply graphic settings, results in them being saved.

4) Huge performance drop in the game, FPS are in the single digits.

If you have an otherwise decent PC with latest drivers installed but still you get bad performance, Nvidia PhysX is the prime suspect. Since game update 1.1 (October 29), you can disable PhysX from the in-game graphics menu.

5) Game is capped at 30 FPS, how do I change that?

  1. Locate the settings.ini file found at (Your Username)/Documents/Lords Of The Fallen directory.
  2. Add the following line:max_frame_rate = 60 (or whatever number you want)3) If the framerate still appears capped at 30, there is also another settings.ini file in the Steam game folder. In Steam Library, right click on the game, select Properties>Local files and click on the Browse Local Files button to get to the Steam directory. In this settings.ini file, the max_frame_rate key is apparently present, so change the already existing value to whatever you want and save.

6) Lords Of The Fallen crash occurs at frequent intervals.

  1. For AMD users, uninstalling Catalyst Control Center may resolve random crashes.
  2. Open the game directory and open the folder named “_CommonRedist”. Inside, open “DirectX” and then “Jun2010” folder and run DXSETUP.exe .

7) Game language starts in non-English, how do I change it?

In Steam Library, right click on the game, select Properties>Local files and click on the Browse Local Files button to get to the Steam directory. Locate the “language.ini” file and open it. Change the key game_language_text to “English”.

8) GPU reports increased temperature and 99% usage regardless of settings.

Do not use Max Power profiles in your graphics card settings with this game. Also try disabling/altering Power Mode for your GPU, if there is such an option available, to force a limit in VRAM and GPU clock usage.

9) On PC, I cannot remap my 360 gamepad keys.

In Steam Library, right click on the game, select Properties>Local files and click on the Browse Local Files button to get to the Steam directory. Locate the “bindings.ini” file and open it. Edit the button values to the ones best suiting your needs.

10) Steam Overlay doesn’t work.

Disable background running programs interfering with the screen like FRAPS, MSI Afterburner etc.

Lords of the Fallen sure has its fair share with quite weird issues, as well as several ones that require fiddling with .ini files. Although future patches will take care of many of them, official attention to a specific glitch will depend on its reported frequency. So if you have a specific issue that need resolving, please let us know at the comments below and we’ll do our best to tackle it.

Top 10 Fixes for The Legend of Korra Game Crashes, Errors, LoK exe Win32, Stuttering, Controllers, Poor FPS

The Legend of Korra video game is a third person beat ’em up game released recently in 2014, based on the anime or cartoon, The Legend of Korra. It’s now available on windows, playstation 3, xbox 360, playstation 4 and xbox one. Disappointingly, this game has received quite a few negative reviews. But still, many people play it, either because they really like it, or because of the original series. Just as other PC games, The Legend of Korra is filled with various problems, mostly because of the differences in all the computers around the globe. If you are one of the victims of the bugs, you have come to the right place. Here we will list ten of the most popular troubles people have with this game.

Before you read further, I recommend you to check your computer for compatibility and viruses. In many cases, people who can’t play certain games, has viruses on their PCs. So if you have a virus, this troubleshooting guide will not be able to help you.

Top 10 Fixes for The Legend of Korra Game Crashes, Errors, LoK exe Win32, Stuttering, Controllers, Poor FPS

1. Unresponsive every few seconds

The game quickly and repeatedly switch between responsive and unresponsive. This may happen when your PC is not fast enough to run the game. To solve it, simply lower some of the game’s settings. A great way to do that is to use smaller resolutions. If you can, play with a controller, as mouse and keyboard is hard to run.

2. “LoK.exe is not a valid Win32 binary”

This should only happen to windows XP users. For windows XP users, you might have bought the game because the developers say it’s supported. However, it is now sadly discontinued, which means this problem will probably not be solved anymore. You can however, update your operating system, and then it will be instantly solved.

3. PS3 controller issue

If you are using Motioninjoy to play the game with a PS3 controller, then this may occur, and the controller can’t be used in game. It’s just Motioninjoy’s issue with the game. All you have to do, is to change the program. There are a lot of other choices out there. A very good alternative to Motioninjoy is SCPServer.

4. Can’t post review

Not really a bug of the game, but some Steam users have not been able to post a review of the game on Steam. If this happens to you, please also check if you can leave reviews on other games. Most of the time, it’s Steam’s fault. If so, you just have to be patient and try again later.

5. Game crashing after starting

When you start the game and it crashes immediately, then you can follow this guide to successfully play the game. Go to the game’s location in file explorer, and right click “LoK.exe” and click “Properties”. Then navigate to the Compatibility tab and check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and choose the mode that works for you.

6. Launching process starts but the game doesn’t run

So when you launch the game, a message appears and immediately disappears, then the launching process stops. And it keeps on happening if you click launch again. To solve this, simply go to the “korra” folder in your “My documents” folder, and delete “SystemData.dat”. Now launch the game again, and it should work properly.

7. Can’t change controller

Not really a bug at all, because there is no controller setting in the game! Sounds strange but it’s true. That also means you are stuck with the default controls. They may come with an update though, because many people have already asked for this.

8. Can’t find the game in the store

The game is not listed with a price in the store, but it’s also not free. There’s just no button to click in order to download or buy it. This should not happen unless you are living in countries where this game is unavailable, like Japan. If you log into Steam in Japan, then you might not find it on the store. This can’t be fixed. But you can ask a friend outside of Japan to gift the game to you.

9. Can’t get costume pr achievement

After completing all the missions in the game, and you still don’t get the costumes or achievements for it. You might have missed something else, but chances are you just have to beat the boss again. Yeah, it’s that simple.

10. FPS drops

Some people have experienced big frames per second drops while playing the game. First, you have to be sure your computer’s specs are enough to run this game. If it’s all good, but the problem remains, try to go open task manager and end other processes in background. Also, set the the game as high priority. After all this, there’s nothing more to do. If the fps is still dropping, you might just have to buy new and better processor and RAM.

The Legend of Korra is still a very new game, so there aren’t so much bugs. More problems might appear as the game evolve, but for now, we have pretty much covered all the bugs players have met with this troubleshooting guide. A lot of times, when you can’t launch the game, you just have to reboot it, and it will work. And other times, it’s might not be the game’s fault. It may be viruses damaging you PC, or the components of your computer is not fast enough. If none of these applies to you, and none of the fixes works, then please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below, and we will try our best to help you out.

Civilization: Beyond Earth Review

This is a community review of Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth Review on the PC, taking a look at what makes the game great and not so good.

First of all I must acknowledge that I might be a bit biased in favor of “Beyond Earth”. I love science-fiction and all things robots, genetic manipulation and space. I’m a true disciple of strategy games and especially of the turn-based variety and quite the veteran of many, many rounds of “Alpha Centauri”. I’ve been very hyped.

This said as introduction I’d first like to say that I like the design of Civilization 5, although I consider it a seriously dumbed down game, up to the point of it being the mentally handicapped little brother of its predecessors. But is it fair to use such harsh words? Maybe I should come to peace with the fact that Civilization 5 just isn’t the same as the other games and in certain ways it did improve. Despite being dumbed down it isn’t an easy game to master when you face human players that operate with the same meta as you. So it didn’t get boring too quickly.

“Beyond Earth” kept the best of Civilization 5 (non-stackable units are debatable) and added a whole bucket of goodness to create a truly amazing game with an atmosphere that puts your mind at peace, while focused on the task that lies before you: survive on an alien world.

I love the addition of the affinity system which visually expresses the philosophy you embrace, which means you either play as Col. Quaritch, Robocop or Ray Kurzweil. Additionally you can select virtues divided into might, prosperity, knowledge and industry (basically a different sort of social policy system, but improved as it rewards both beelining as well as grabbing many boni from one section, or combining sections as well as tiers… and so on). I’d wish for “hybrid” affinities that let you embrace 2 main affinities for special units, but I don’t see the developers doing that anytime soon. One can still embrace 2 affinities, in rare cases it even pays off (for example the Prime version of the Aegis mech of the purity affinity needs 10 purity affinity and 3 supremacy affinity [resistance is futile, puny meatbags!]. I found out that for units it pays to have up to 5 affinity levels of a secondary affinity, however affinity influences much more than just units, so I’ll have to experiment around a bit. I for one enjoyed going Purity as my primary affinity and Supremacy as my secondary affinity in my first game.

Beyond Earth added quests, better neutral city state mechanics (called stations now), better barbarian mechanics (b-but aliens aren’t barbarians! They are different! Yes they are. This makes it better, dear reader. That’s what I talk about!), better victory conditions and it feels much better writing possible future history, instead of reenacting history in the most ludicrous ways (nuking ancient Egyptians as Gandhi!). And space colonization! Is that nothing?

Last but not least you select your colonists’ loadout: that is sponsor, equipment and type of colonists. This is a very great addition as it lets you customize your starting conditions in a more unique way than in Civ 5, adds the feeling that you have more control and ownership over your colonists and allows different strategies instead. We’ll see more than a couple of viable strategies that will be quite different to each others. A bit irritating is the fact that the sponsors do not include a Northern European race. Sure, Russians are Caucasoid, but so are some North Africans strictly speaking. I’ll play the French for now. What I am missing is a member of one of the Nordic, Anglo Saxon and Germanic race. It is quite likely they’ll send people to space, although the developer might have wanted to show us a grimdark future where mass immigration replaced the European people almost completely with the grand daughter of Marine Le Pen leading the last Front National enclave of the French into space. Who knows.

Apart from this the personalities and background of the sponsors don’t appeal to me. They are quite bland persons. That said it allows the player to use his imagination more. Still given how fleshed out the characters are, one could imagine them to be at least a bit interesting. Yet they are not. The most important issue however is balance. So far I believe all sponsors have their viable ways of working well, so as of now I think Firaxis did that one well.

I could drone on a bit more but this is lost time that I could have used playing this game!

The Verdict

Do I recommend it? Yes, I do. The atmosphere is just great. The sci-fi turn-based strategy genre is quite sparsely populated so even a game with some imperfections would get a rather positive review from me. I think Beyond Earth actually earns the good vote. It’s not actually a breathtaking game, but while it looks like a small step for the turn-based strategy genre, it is a great step from Civ 5.

7.5/10 – It’s okay.

You won’t truly know the difference about, if PhysX is working or not, until you’ve secured some rocket launchers. First of all make sure you are using a compatible nVidia Graphic Card to enjoy this feature. Secondly, a clean re-install of GPU drivers might help.

7. Crashes Randomly Fix

There haven’t been any noticeable reports about random crashes in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. However, if you are one of the rare players to experience it, install all the installers in the ‘redist’ folder in your game’s directory. Make sure that you restart your computer after the installation is done.

8. Boss Zone Bug fix:

If the gate leading to a boss won’t open and asks you to wait for the other players to arrive even if you are playing single player, try wiping all enemies in the area and then attempt opening the gate.

9. NPCs Stuck or Disappeared in the game:

If NPC you are escorting get stuck in an object, e.g. elevator or disappears, and re-launching the game is not much of a help, killing your character in the game and re-spawning will get the NPC unstuck or re-drawn.

10. Linux Shift Authentication Fix

Borderlands 2 had this issue and seems like it has persisted in the Pre-Sequel as well. In order to fix it, add the following command line in launch options:

SSL_CERT_DIR=”/etc/ssl/certs” %command%

Restart and it should work.

How to Use SHiFT Codes in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

1. Redeem

There are 2 options to redeem your code:

I – Select “Extras > SHiFT Code” from the main menu, and paste in your code.

II – Go to the SHiFT Vending Machine in-game (located in the central square of Concordia, across from the Fast Travel station). This vending machine allows players to input SHiFT codes in the middle of a game without having to exit to the main menu.

2. Withdraw

After you have redeemed the code, you need to withdraw the keys in order to use them. This step also takes place in the SHiFT Vending Machine. (This wasn’t necessary in Borderlands 2)

3. Use

Head to the Golden Chest, located between the SHiFT machine and the Fast Travel Station, and use your keys as you progress in the game. The level of the loot you get will be equal to the level of your character on the moment you open the chest.
