Top 10 Fixes for Wii U Freezing, Errors, Can't connect to eShop, Nintendo Land Freeze, No LED light, and more

Over the last year, the Wii U has become a very popular console. Despite fierce competition from Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo found a niche of gamers that prefer their console and the style of their games.

With any console, there are technical issues that can prevent users from playing their games. Read on for some of the more popular issues on the Wii U and some tips on how to fix them.

1# Failure to log in with existing Nintendo ID after update

FIX – There isn’t one. Well, there isn’t anything that you can do anyway. When this happens, it is a sign that the servers are overloaded because everyone is updating, and that is why you cannot sign in. Just wait a few hours and then try again.

TIP – Wait a few days before you do the software update.

2# Wii Games are not working properly on the Wii U

FIX – Wii games are only playable on the Wii U with a Wii remote. They will not work with the Wii U game pad.

3# The Wii U does not recognize an external hard drive

FIX – Nintendo recommends that you only use external hard drives with an AC connection. The Wii U will not recognize a USB thumb drive.

4# Issues with loading the YouTube App

FIX – Nintendo are currently working on a fix for the YouTube app as it currently hangs in the loading stage. In the meantime, they are suggesting that users use the web browser for YouTube

5# Nintendo Land Freezes on the load screen

FIX – Delete Nintendo Land’s update data and then set the Miiverse to English only and you should notice that Nintendo Land loads fine after that.

6# Can’t connect to the eShop on Wii U after sync of account with 3DS

FIX – This is not something that you can fix. The eShop servers are probably down and it is just a coincidence that you have synced the account. Wait a few hours for the eShop to go back online. If the problem persists, you might have to contact Nintendo.

7# Error Code 102-2501

FIX – This error code means that your Wii U account has been deleted. People that have bought second hand consoles might experience this when the original owner wants their ID transferred over. Yours might be sent instead. Just contact Nintendo and they will transfer your ID back to you.

8# Wii U Gamepad won’t turn on or charge

FIX – This is a common issue with Wii U game pads and often occurs when it has been left on charge for too long. The fix is to unplug it for 15 seconds and then try again. If that doesn’t work, unscrew the back of the pad and unplug the battery for a minute. Plug the battery back in and it should work. This also works for battery drainage problems.

9# Wii U freezing when loading certain games

FIX – To fix this, you need to delete the game update and then re-download the game. Do not delete the save data as this will delete your progress within the game.

10# Wii U suddenly turning off with no LED Light

FIX – This is a problem with the AC adapter. Try the AC reset where you unplug from the wall and the console for 10 seconds, plug it back in and see if it works. If not, you will need to ask Nintendo for a replacement AC adapter.

We hope that this troubleshooting guide helped you have a smoother Wii U experience. If you continue to experience issues with the console, we encourage you to discuss in the comments section below.

Quick Guide: How to Fix Mario Kart 8 Connection Errors

A common issue that’s been popping up in Mario Kart 8 is its connection problems. To fix this, you just need a bit of router know-how and a few clicks of a button. Don’t worry, just follow these simple instructions to get you up and running in Mario Kart 8.

Update: This is also known to fix the Error Codes 118-0520, 118-0519 or 118-0516
  • You will need to obtain your Wii U’s IP address by accessing your router. You do this by entering your router’s IP address in the address bar of your internet browser.
  • You will find your Wii U IP address when you check the connected devices in your router settings. Probably under DHCP.
  • IP address will be the same as your router IP apart from the last bit e.g if your router ip is 192.168.2.1 your Wii U IP address might be 192.168.2.4 depending on how many devices you have connected to your router.
  • Once you know the Wii U IP, click on DMZ menu option. Enable DMZ and enter the Wii U’s IP.

All should be good. From the research I have done this is a common problem with Belkin routers.

Mario Kart 8: First Impressions

PokemonYouTube and Megamanmushroom666 are only some of the users who were able to nab an advanced copy of Mario Kart 8 at SEARS this week. From their initial feedback, Nintendo’s highly anticipated flagship racing game seems to be worth the wait, featuring smooth graphics, very refined controls, balanced items, stutter-free gaming, and rewarding, skill-based gameplay.

On graphics:

Remember that demo you played on Gamestop? Well the game looks even better than that. It looks so much better on my TV.

Item balance:

And I love the item balance, whenever I am in first, second, or third I feel very safe. On the other hand when I’m behind the pack it is very hard to catch up. Previous games have had this backwards.

Online play:

I played online and I am pretty much the only American playing and boy it runs so smooth. I have not experienced any lag whatsoever and I had plenty of 10-12 player matches, the game plays like a dream.

Gameplay and skill:

In other words, in this game everything counts, it finally feels like you need skills more than anything. Hitting all those jumps, boosts (starting boost), hitting all those drifts, it all matters. There’s times I’m in first, I’m doing everything perfect and I can’t see anyone behind me, but then I’m drifting and accidentally hit the wall for a second and I feel the person right behind me. It feels amazing to hit and do everything perfectly.

Track design:

I’ve beaten the first two cups so far and some of the tracks are downright fantastic. Thwomp Ruins, Toad Harbour, Twisted Mansion and Shy Guy Falls were great.

With such positive feedback from early users, Mario Kart 8 seems to be a title that delivers on its promise. Get ready and set for the coming weekends Mario Kart 8 marathon!
