Over the last year, the Wii U has become a very popular console. Despite fierce competition from Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo found a niche of gamers that prefer their console and the style of their games.
With any console, there are technical issues that can prevent users from playing their games. Read on for some of the more popular issues on the Wii U and some tips on how to fix them.
1# Failure to log in with existing Nintendo ID after update
FIX – There isn’t one. Well, there isn’t anything that you can do anyway. When this happens, it is a sign that the servers are overloaded because everyone is updating, and that is why you cannot sign in. Just wait a few hours and then try again.
TIP – Wait a few days before you do the software update.
2# Wii Games are not working properly on the Wii U
FIX – Wii games are only playable on the Wii U with a Wii remote. They will not work with the Wii U game pad.
3# The Wii U does not recognize an external hard drive
FIX – Nintendo recommends that you only use external hard drives with an AC connection. The Wii U will not recognize a USB thumb drive.
4# Issues with loading the YouTube App
FIX – Nintendo are currently working on a fix for the YouTube app as it currently hangs in the loading stage. In the meantime, they are suggesting that users use the web browser for YouTube
5# Nintendo Land Freezes on the load screen
FIX – Delete Nintendo Land’s update data and then set the Miiverse to English only and you should notice that Nintendo Land loads fine after that.
6# Can’t connect to the eShop on Wii U after sync of account with 3DS
FIX – This is not something that you can fix. The eShop servers are probably down and it is just a coincidence that you have synced the account. Wait a few hours for the eShop to go back online. If the problem persists, you might have to contact Nintendo.
7# Error Code 102-2501
FIX – This error code means that your Wii U account has been deleted. People that have bought second hand consoles might experience this when the original owner wants their ID transferred over. Yours might be sent instead. Just contact Nintendo and they will transfer your ID back to you.
8# Wii U Gamepad won’t turn on or charge
FIX – This is a common issue with Wii U game pads and often occurs when it has been left on charge for too long. The fix is to unplug it for 15 seconds and then try again. If that doesn’t work, unscrew the back of the pad and unplug the battery for a minute. Plug the battery back in and it should work. This also works for battery drainage problems.
9# Wii U freezing when loading certain games
FIX – To fix this, you need to delete the game update and then re-download the game. Do not delete the save data as this will delete your progress within the game.
10# Wii U suddenly turning off with no LED Light
FIX – This is a problem with the AC adapter. Try the AC reset where you unplug from the wall and the console for 10 seconds, plug it back in and see if it works. If not, you will need to ask Nintendo for a replacement AC adapter.
