Miner Wars 2081 White Screen Crash, Poor FPS, DRM workaround, No menus, Missing Textures, Stuttering

Miner Wars 2081 is one of the hit Green Light releases from Steam in the action-survival shooter genre. On a quick note we found it quite impressive, having a worthwhile plot with excellent environments and game play. However, Miner Wars 2081 is muted with some crashes, errors, and performance issues though, so our Crash Wiki team has brought together a fix guide for you. Let us know your feedback in the comments section.

Poor FPS performance

Here’s a working fix from Rykhae:

Try run it with win XP service pack 3 compatibility and desktop composition disabled. That worked for me. Well atleast its not anymore 1fps every 5 sec. Still dropping FPS to the 5-7 randomly when something new appear. Like 5 enemies or asteroids.

Cannot travel after remapping keys

  • Try remapping the left mouse button to the default.
  • Try hovering your mouse over things and pressing the button mapped to be that.

Miner Wars 2081 DRM workaround – Play while disconnected

Start Miner Wars 2081 with your Internet connection on, then after logging in you can disconnect and still play fine. You can also save the game while disconnected.

No menus and missing textures

Fix thanks to Kirzan:

  1. Proceed to the title’s folder (within your Steam folder) and run “MinerWarsUserFolderOpener.exe”. This opens the folder where config file is, as well as the log (I think)… Yes, it’s odd to have an executable do that, but quite practical!
  2. Right click “MinerWars.cfg”.
  3. Open with WordPad. You can open it with Notepad, just make sure to enable word wrap.
  4. Change ScreenWidth Value=”1920″ and ScreenHeight Value=”1080″ to your desktop values.
  5. I don’t know if it changes anything, I honestly don’t care enough to try. But I enabled VSync by changing VerticalSync Value=”True”.
  6. Boot the title.
  7. Note that, in the copy pasted contents of the CFG file, my personal values are shown. You will have different numbers, the game’s defaults.

Graphics bug: missing polygons in Miner Wars 2081

Enabling vertical sync in the video settings seems to fix it.

White screen / purple screen crash

This happens when alt+tabbing in and out of the game. You just need to wait a while for normal play to resume.

Fix for zoom in and control issues

A patch his been deployed to fix this issue.

Stuttering during explosions and multiple enemies

  • You can stop Miner Wars 2081 from lagging via your PC task manager. In Windows 7, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE and click on Task Manager, go to Processes, then right-click on Miner Wars 2081’s respective exe file and set priority above normal or higher. You must do this every time you play the game.
  • In addition, your anti-virus may be the problem here. There are certain anti-virus software that are not ideal for gaming so, check our Technical References page for some suggestions.
  • If you’re still using Windows XP, upgrade to Windows 7. Honestly, a lot of users have attested this to be the fastest solution they’ve tried.
  • For more advanced users, try enabling/forcing tripple buffering and V-sync using the D3DOverrider software. Check our Technical References page to download D3DOverrirder / RivaTuner.
  • Finally make sure that your Internet connection is stable. This is a commonly overlooked problem especially for online modes / multiplayer games.
